Goring by Sea Cricket Football Club

History

The Football section was formed in 1978 by the cricketers of the club. They wanted something to do during the long cold winter months. They started off by joining The Sussex Sunday League.

The Club started its first reserve team in 1984/85, however they weren’t allowed to join the league straight away and had to play friendlies to prove that they could raise a side every week. The reserves eventually joined the league in 1986.

The team has enjoyed some success over the years winning Division 3 in 2000/01 and reaching the final of the division 2 cup in 2018/19.

The Saturday side was formed in the 2010/11 season joining the Worthing District League and had success early on in their history winning the Benevolent Cup in the 2011/12 season. The team then went on to win Division 1 in 2012/13 gaining promotion to the Premier Division.

In the 2013/14 Season they won the Leagues Charity Cup beating a strong Sompting side 4-1 in the final

In 2019 it was decided that the team would move leagues to the The West Sussex Football league to challenge themselves further.

2020 sees the introduction of a ladies team for the first time at Goring. They will play in the Sussex County Women’s & Girls Football League.
